Air Conditioning

Townsville Mobile Mechanic is fully qualified and licensed with the Australian Refrigerant Council (ARC) to carry out Air Conditioner refrigerant re-gas and air conditioning repair. The Australian Automotive Code of Practice 2008 provides mandatory and best practice guidelines for air conditioning repair. Technicians must be licensed to handle fluorocarbon refrigerant. The code of practice has been developed under the Ozone Protection and Synthetic Greenhouse Gas Management Regulations 1995. Don’t risk your air conditioning getting an air conditioning re-gas from an unqualified, unlicensed and uninsured backyard mechanic. You not only risk your car you risk the ozone layer.

AC Diagnostic has two or three parts:

  • Complete Air Conditioning Inspection

This procedure will establish the condition of your vehicle air conditioner system and includes to determine its suitability to be re-gassed with refrigerant. This includes:

    • Static & operating pressure checks
    • In-car delivery temperature measurement
    • Check for odours in vehicle
    • Compressor clutch operation, drive belt visual check
    • Check condition of condenser, pipes and hoses
    • Air conditioner drier/filter- condition check
    • Correct operation of condenser fan
    • Leak system check, Electronic refrigerant sniffer, Ultra Violet dye test, Vacuum leak test
    • De-Gas system
  • Refrigerant Re-gas and Dye Trace

If the system is suitable for re-gassing then a AC refrigerant is added along with a Dye Trace. The Dye Trace allows us to easily identify any leaks that may occur after the system has been re-gassed.

If your car maintains a cool temperature and you are happy with the performance, then we are happy to have helped you.

  • Follow up Re-Inspection

If you find that your car is not staying cool or is not getting cool as expected you may have a leak. The Dye Trace added at step two will allow us to locate the leak quickly. Please call for a FREE follow up visit and inspection.

You don’t need to have your air conditioner re-gassed every 1.5-2 years. You should have your air-conditioning re-gassed when you feel and air is no longer cold enough. Having a re-gas is a simple fix that will have your vehicle feeling cool once again. And the good news is that you don’t have to leave your house or work place to have it done.

The Townville Mobile Mechanic travels to you at your home, work or any other place that is convenient for you. Don’t spend your time booking your car into a workshop paying inflated garage or dealership prices saving valuable time and saving money.

Unlike other workshops, the Townsville Mobile Mechanic is environmentally minded. He will not add to global warming or break the law by re-gassing any leaking or defective air conditioning systems. Please act responsibly and make sure that your system is tested and in good order. According to Australian Refrigerant Council if an air conditioning system is leaking or faulty it must be repaired prior to re-gas.

Air Conditioning Repair

If the vehicle air conditioning system has sustained damage of any sort (cracks in pipes, splits in hoses, stone damage to condenser) and replacement parts are required, Townsville Mobile Mechanic will inform the customer of the various repair options.

Many car air conditioning parts are available from Aftermarket suppliers at a fraction of the cost of buying from Main Dealers.  The aftermarket parts have the same high quality as genuine parts and are in many cases made by the same factory.

When preparing repair quotations, Townsville Mobile Mechanic will obtain the best price for genuine and aftermarket parts and the customer will have the choice.

Bad smells

Due to the very nature of the air conditioning system fungus and bacteria can build up on the internal evaporator of the car (situated under the dashboard). This buildup of bacteria can result in an offensive smell given off whenever the air conditioning is switched on, it can also make occupants feel sick or contract ear, nose and throat infections.

The Townsville Mobile Mechanic can treat the evaporator, killing all the bugs and leaving your car air conditioning smelling sweetly.

Although this treatment has proved to be successful in many cases for up to one year after treatment there are exceptions. No refunds are offered on this service if it fails to clear your problem. A second treatment may be offered, however if the first treatment failed in less than 1 month, more radical cleansing may be required.
